NCC Coaching Trends 2009 Interview No. 15: Marion Franklin

Marion FranklinMarion Franklin, MS., MCC, of LifeCoachingGroup.com, is a long-time member of the New Coach Connection discussion list and one of the NCC Connectors. Marion is a great source of insight about coaching skills and how to handle difficult client situations for NCC members. She is uniquely qualified to talk about the current state of coaching because she is familiar with both the 15 proficiencies originally used by the International Association of Coaching and the 11 core competencies used by the International Coach Federation.

Marion gives a historical perspective to understanding where the coaching profession is now. She observes that she no longer gets “What sport?”or “What’s that?” when she tells people she are a coach. There are an estimated 40,000 coaches worldwide and the number is growing. The professional organizations are providing standards of excellence and ethical codes. One exciting bit of news is that the International coach federation is making their standards more rigorous and are complying with guidelines from a recognized independent credentialing organization. This is all god for the coaching profession.

Marion suggests that during these difficult economic times coaches could consider offering more group coaching opportunities for their clients. This can help more poeple, cost less for the consumers, and not reduce the coach’s income markedly.

Listen to the call now to hear more of Marion’s insights–there is a lot more than these brief highlighys. Enjoy!
