NCC Coaching Trends 2009 #1: Ernest F. Oriente

First NCC  Coaching Trends 2009 Interview: Ernest F. Oriente

Ernest F. Oriente

I had the pleasure of talking to Ernest Oriente this morning to launch our new series of interviews with leading figures in the coaching industry. Ernest is a highly successful corporate coach who pioneered coaching 13 years ago. He now generously shares what he has learned about the business of coaching with newbies and seasoned coaches alike.

Ernest is a valued member of the New Coach Connection discussion list. Learn more about Ernest’s business model that he talks about in this interview in the book he wrote with his partner Judy Feld, Smart Match Alliances. His website is PowerHour.com.

In this series our guests will respond to these two questions:

(1) What is the current state of the coaching profession?
(2) What are the challenges and opportunities for coaches in 2009?

I am confident you will find Ernest’s answers practical and insightful. Enjoy!

  1. Kim Nishida says:

Great interview and a great idea for this series. I especially
appreciate that Ernest stresses the importance of mastering certain
skills for running a business. Hopefully this “trend” of banishing
the myth that you can open your doors and clients will come will
continue. I highly recommend this interview and wished I had
listened to it when I started out as a coach. Kim Nishida

  2. Hey, saw this blog post by Janet Stack about Ernest’s interview
with me, and wanted to share it with those of you who may see this.
Thanks, Janet, for reviewing the interview.

  3. I really enjoyed this interview, so thank you both…Don and
Ernest. Having been in business for 14.5 years (doing presentation
design for corporate clients), I have realized that running my
business (any creative business) takes much more than talent to ‘do
the work’. This call makes me realize the need for creative
    business coaches. Thanks again! Nancy
